Personal Tax Returns

Straightforward, compliant, checked against the records. Handled properly.

A personal tax return sounds simple. For many people it is. But as soon as there is a rental property, a share portfolio, some crypto, a salary-sacrifice arrangement, or a trust distribution, the simple return becomes a series of judgment calls. The default answer, when a return is prepared in a hurry, tends to be the safe, over-declared, under-claimed one.

We ask about the things that change a return: a property bought or sold, shares or crypto, a trust distribution, a salary-sacrifice arrangement, foreign income. Then we check the claims against the records before anything is lodged.

For most of our individual clients, their personal return sits inside a wider engagement, whether business, structure, or family group. The return itself is the last step in a larger conversation, not a once-a-year transaction.

What’s included

Every type of income, every relevant deduction.

Read by the partner who actually knows you.

  • Salary, wages, and employment income

PAYG reconciliation, allowances treated correctly, termination payments assessed against the right caps, and employee share-scheme income mapped properly.

  • Investment income

Australian and foreign dividends, franking credits, managed fund distributions, interest, and trust distributions from family or unit trusts.

  • Rental properties

Depreciation schedules, borrowing expenses, capital versus revenue distinctions, interest deductibility, co-ownership splits, and negative gearing treatment.

  • Shares, crypto, and capital gains

Parcel tracking, disposal matching, foreign shares, staking and airdrops, main-residence considerations, and CGT discount or concessions where they apply.

  • Deductions and offsets

Work-related, self-education, home office, protective equipment. Claimed properly, supported with substantiation, without chancing the obvious audit flags.

  • Special situations

Moving countries mid-year, changing residency status, redundancy, inheritance, divorce, major asset sales. The cases where the default return quietly goes wrong.

Who it’s for

Individuals who want their return handled properly.

Professionals and owners with meaningful income, investments, or structures. Individuals with rental properties, share portfolios, or crypto holdings. Anyone whose simple return has stopped being simple.

Not the right fit for anyone looking for the cheapest possible lodgement. There are mass-market options for that, and we are not trying to compete with them.

How we approach it

Collect. Prepare. Review.

  1. 01

    Collect

A short questionnaire and a request for specific documents. We pull what we can directly from the ATO pre-fill, Xero if relevant, and broker or exchange reports where they are available.

  2. 02

    Prepare

Partner-prepared from start to finish. No junior pass-through. Working papers, deduction schedules, and any judgment calls documented so the position is defensible if queried.

  3. 03

    Review and lodge

A short review call or email walking through anything material, then lodgement with the ATO. You see the draft before anything is submitted.

FAQ

Common questions.

If yours isn’t here, ask it on the first call. Thirty minutes, no fee.

What do you need from me?

A checklist tailored to your situation, usually much shorter than clients expect. Pre-filled information is a starting point, not the full return. We mostly need the things that complete the picture: rental property details, crypto and private share records, foreign income, and specific deductions with their substantiation.

How much does it cost?

Scoped at engagement based on complexity. A straightforward PAYG return is fixed-price. Returns with rentals, investments, or complexity get a custom fixed fee up front, agreed before work starts.

What if I am selected for an ATO review or audit?

We can represent you; that work is scoped and quoted separately when it arises. We keep working papers and documentation that support every position we take, so if questions come back, the groundwork is already there.

Can you amend a previously lodged return?

Yes. If a prior year was lodged incorrectly, under-claimed or over-declared, we can amend within the ATO amendment window. Scoped separately from the current-year engagement.

Do you offer refund-anticipation or fee-from-refund services?

No. We invoice the engagement directly. Fee-from-refund products typically cost more and add a layer we do not think clients need.
